Ups and downs for Standing Construct GasGas Factory Racing in MXGP Loket

After last weekend’s visit to the sandy Oss race track in the Netherlands for MXGP round four, Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing packed up the race truck and travelled to the hardpack circuit of Loket in the Czech Republic for the fifth stop of the series.

For Standing Construct’s MXGP class racer Pauls Jonass, despite still feeling the effects of his sizable crash last weekend the Latvian lined up at Loket confident of returning to his early season form. Frustratingly, after moving into seventh and with only a handful of laps remaining in race one, a freak technical issue resulted in a disappointing DNF for the 24-year-old. For moto two, Pauls was back on the gas and came out on top of a race long battle with Shaun Simpson for sixth.

Brian Bogers also suffered with a frustrating day in the Czech Republic, placing 18th in race one. Looking to make amends in moto two, and following a much better start for the Dutchman, a rock damaged the clutch on his MC 450F, which frustratingly brought his day to an early end.

Pauls Jonass: “It was a shame that I cased the triple in race one as I was up there and feeling good for a strong result. The impact made my spark plug cap come off, so it wasn’t a good start to the day. In race two, things were much better. I had a good start again and I was up there with the leaders, and ended up with sixth, so pretty decent. I still felt a little bit banged up from last weekend but going into Lommel next weekend, I think I’ll be back to 100% and ready to go in the sand.”

Brian Bogers: “Today was a bit of struggle. In race one I didn’t get a great start and with everyone riding at a similar pace it was hard to make passes. I was fired up for the second one, and after getting through the first couple of laps and moving forwards, a rock damaged my clutch and at this level, your bike needs to be 100%. It’s frustrating but we’re back in the sand next weekend and I’m looking to bounce back and claim another strong result like I did in the sand last weekend in Oss.”

Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing will continue his FIM Motocross World Championship campaign next weekend at the MXGP of Flanders-Belgium.
